In June 1964, a period of rapid development of the Soviet aircraft industry was formed Ukrainian branch of the Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Technology. The purpose of creation of the branch - to assist plants in Ukraine to introduce new technologies and the development of mass production of new types of aircraft (AT). Were formed by the main activities of the Branch:

develop policy technology and process documentation;
engineering and technical assistance in the development of aviation factory serial production of new technologies and the development of antibodies production;
assessment of the technological design of products (TKI) AT and develop recommendations to improve TKI;
development and implementation of processes and mechanization build high-resource connections;
automation of production based on the use of CNC machines (CAM / CAE);
creation of structures made ??of composite materials;
improvement of production processes.
During the period of 1964-1970 years. Branch development were performed that established the viability, effectiveness and efficiency of the institute. Among the most important works of this period were:

development of a unique policy-making technology first two AN-22 "Antey" and An-24;
development process of creating large equipment (pulling-over punches) of fiberglass;
preparation and production of the first in the industry leading technical material (UBC-1311) for the preparation of programs for CNC machines;
development and testing of the first sample of power tools to handle the bolt holes by pulling the rotation tool.
Development and production of the Institute are now widely used in aviation enterprises in Moscow, Kiev, Kharkov, Tallinn, Kuibyshev, Arsenyev, Baku, Tbilisi, Gorky, Ulan-Ude, the Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Voronezh, Kazan, Ulyanovsk and other cities for Aircraft: Antonov An-72, An-74, An-124, Tu-160, Il 96-300, An-38, An-30 and An-225.

In 1991 on the basis of the branch created the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Technology (UkrNIIAT). The institution has been designated as the parent company of Ukraine in the field of scientific and technical support in "Aerospace Industry", in Technology and Materials aircraft production, as well as the parent organization of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine for standardization in the aviation industry.

In the 1990's, major trends are finding ways UkrNIIAT extrabudgetary funding and bring the number of employees at the institute to changing the financial resources that were subsequently implemented. Despite the lack of budget funding Aircraft subject, this line of work continues to be central to the institute. Acting as the leading organization in this field, the institution at that time involved in the development and implementation of sectoral and national programs of aviation "mechanized production of the An-70" and "Hand power tools."

In 1996 UkrNIIAT changed ownership and became a joint stock company in which the share of state ownership was 50% plus one share. Such a transformation is possible to avoid the risk of compromising the integrity of the economic complex of the Institute, to decentralize the management of individual self-supporting structures, to transform some of them into independent subsidiaries - entities.

While maintaining its core specialization - working in the field of aviation technology - Institute developed work in other areas, in particular in the field of publishing.

Currently UkrNIIAT publishes scientific and technical journals "Technology systems" and "Industrial Ukraine» (Industrial Ukraine) - Ukrainian edition of the official corporate presentations at international exhibitions, as well as other scientific and technical publications.

UkrNIIAT is one of the leading organization in the field of standardization of the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine. Reference and regulations, developed by the Institute in demand in many industries in Ukraine.

At the end of XX century UkrNIIAT been intensive work on the subject of disposal of various types of ammunition, obsolete aircraft models and other products, both military and civilian. In 2003, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the "Procedure for disposal of military equipment of the Armed Forces", designed by the Institute participated along with the enterprise "Ukroboronservis" units of the Ministry of Defence and other ministries and agencies.

A partnership with one of the largest manufacturers in the world power tool company - Atlas Copco (Sweden), will increase the capacity of the Institute in terms of creating for interested enterprises in Ukraine problem-oriented systems of mechanization for various applications, as well as mechanized jobs. UkrNIIAT became the official distributor of Atlas Copco Tools in Ukraine.

Complex mechanization formed tool UkrNIIAT and Atlas Copco Tools, successfully used in the aircraft (ASTC "Antonov", "Motor Sich", KSAMC, Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant) and automotive (AvtoZAZ-Daewoo, Iveco, KRAZ) industry sectors, "Shelter" of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, factories PRTP "Ukrgazenergoservis."

Along with the traditional activities associated with the implementation of projects in the field of aviation, in recent years, experts UkrNIIAT gained valuable practical experience in creating programs of industrial development at different levels - from the corporate level to the state and national programs. In 1994 UkrNIIAT involved in the development of the first "program of the aviation industry of Ukraine", subsequently approved by the President of Ukraine. Further, this time as the parent organization of Industrial Policy of Ukraine and, accordingly, the head developer UkrNIIAT involved in the development of the "State complex program of aviation industry of Ukraine to 2010", is developing a "State program of reforming and development of the defense industry for the period up to 2010" , performs the development of "State complex program of high technology."

UkrNIIAT actively participated in the preparation of highly qualified scientific personnel. Since 1993, the institute has specialized scientific advice, accepted to candidate and doctoral theses in the field 05.07.04 - "Technology of production aircraft" and 05.13.22 - "Project management and development of production (technical sciences)." More than 30 industry experts here defended dissertations.

Over 45 years of UkrNIIAT formed significant intellectual potential. The institute has highly qualified professionals: Doctor of Technical Sciences - 22 people., Ph.D. - pers., Professors - people., Scientists - people., Qualified engineers - 830 people. Among the staff of the Institute - the USSR State Prize, Ukrainian SSR and independent Ukraine. UkrNIIAT employees received more than 1.5 thousand certificates and patents.

The Institute develops and maintains partnerships with many well-known domestic and foreign research centers and higher education institutions: Research Center of the Air Force Institute of Electric NASU, Institute for Superhard materials NASU, NAU "Kharkov Aviation Institute", National Aviation University, NTU "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute ", University of Technology and Design, Research Center for Automatic Systems Design (Moscow, Russia), Research Center of CALS-technologies," Applied Logistics "(Moscow, Russia).

In the year of the 45th anniversary of its activities UkrNIIAT remains popular as traditional partners and new customers - enterprises and companies of the aviation industry of Ukraine, Russia, China, Iran, and other industries which produce high technology products and using modern technology.
